St. George’s Day Festival on Stuyvesant Square

    Sunday, May 12, 2019

    May 8, 2019 – NEW YORK, NY

The annual St. George’s Day Barbecue and Potluck will be held at St. George’s Episcopal Church, 7 Rutherford Place at Stuyvesant Square. The event follows an 11 AM worship service on Sunday, May 12. The free, family-friendly event will include food and fun for kids and adults. Kids’ activities include games and face-painting. The event will be held rain or shine.

The event is sponsored by the Parish of Calvary-St. George’s. St. George’s Day not only celebrates the congregation’s long history in the Stuyvesant Square Neighborhood and in New York City but also honors the real-life Christian saint and martyr, Saint George, who lived and died in Palestine during the early years of the 4th Century, AD.

Food will include hot dogs and drinks desserts, salads and side dishes. Alcohol is not permitted.

Limited outdoor seating for elderly and disabled guests will be available in St. George’s Church 16th Street Courtyard and on Rutherford Place. Inside the church, the sanctuary is fully-wheelchair accessible through the East 16th Street Chantry entrance. Due to limited parking in the neighborhood, use of public transportation is recommended.

    About Calvary- St. George’s Church

St. George’s Episcopal Church is a part of the Parish of Calvary-St. George’s. Its ministry began in 1749 when it was founded by Trinity Church Wall Street. The Church moved to its present location on Stuyvesant Square in 1846. A 1976 merger with three other nearby Episcopal Church congregations under the leadership of the Rev. Dr. Thomas F. Pike formed the current parish, currently led by the Rev. Jacob A. Smith. Visit www.calvarystgeorges.org for more information on events, ministries, and ways to connect.
