Couples are invited to celebrate the most famous kiss in American history, as Keep the Spirit of ’45 Alive hosts World War II veteran Bud Temme and his wife, Trudy, plus actress Loni Anderson and her husband for the annual Times Square Kiss Sunday, August 14, 10:30 a.m. on the Broadway Plaza (bet. 43rd & 44th Sts.).
The Temmes will be joined by four generations of their family, and fellow Minnesotan and longtime family friend Hollywood actress Loni Anderson, a Spirit of ’45 spokesperson who will be honoring her father who was a WWII Navy veteran. August 14 marks the 71st anniversary of the day the war ended and peace began.
The Temme family will arrive in New York City on Friday, August 12, and will stay at the historic New Yorker Hotel, which is celebrating its rich WWII heritage this week by displaying a six-foot sculpture depicting the “Times Square Kiss” in its lobby.
These events will be among the first of more than 200 events that will be taking place across the country to mark Spirit of ’45 Day, a national day of remembrance honoring the men and women of the WWII generation.
Also on Sunday, at 1 p.m. there will be a public wreath laying ceremony at the East Coast WWII Memorial in Park.
