Sunday Meeting – Robert Berson: Decency and Democracy: The Ethics of Good Neighbors

Sharing some of the work of Professor Nancy Rosenblum, I will ask, What is a neighbor? Who are our neighbors? and What is special—positive and problematic—about our relationships with neighbors? I’ll share some of my own experiences with neighbors, and ask what might characterize the unique dimensions of the ethics of good neighbors, and how those dimensions relate to Ethical Culture.
ROBERT J. BERSON is Leader at the Ethical Society of Northern Westchester and a clinical psychologist with a practice in Manhattan. Bob is a graduate of the Fieldston School (the Ethical Culture Schools) and of the Sunday School of the Riverdale-Yonkers Society for Ethical Culture. He graduated from Haverford College and earned graduate degrees at Harvard University, Bank Street College of Education, Teachers College, and the City University of New York. He taught in the Ethics Department at Fieldston and has worked in the counseling services at a number of colleges and universities in the New York metropolitan area.
This week’s shared charity is the Coalition for the Homeless, the nation’s oldest advocacy and direct service organization helping homeless men, women, and children.
