The Cathedral Of St. John The Divine Invites
All Singers And Musicians To Perform At

“Refuge In Music: Global Solidarity” Concert

Anthems from around the world among pieces to be performed

The Cathedral of St. John the Divine invites all singers and musicians with their own instruments for a collective performance at “Refuge in Music: Global Solidarity” on Friday, February 9 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, 1047 Amsterdam Avenue (at 112th Street), Manhattan. This is the Cathedral’s second annual public participatory concert, organized to celebrate global diversity and solidarity and denounce xenophobia and divisiveness.

Participants of all ages and abilities are invited to play, sing or simply listen to beautiful music to reaffirm the America we want to live in: one where everyone and anyone can contribute to the creation of our shared world. Last year, nearly 1,000 musicians and singers participated with a variety of instruments, ranging from violins and trumpets to flutes and guitars, spilling out of the Great Choir space into the vast reaches of the Cathedral.

The evening will feature special guests Emeline Michel, Haitian singer and Red Cross ambassador, and Paul Winter, seven-time Grammy® Award-winning saxophonist and Artist in Residence at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. The evening’s repertoire will consist of choral music from around the world, including national anthems from countries such as Haiti, Nigeria and Mexico.

Music for pieces to be performed will be posted on the Cathedral website to either print and bring or use electronically. Instrumentalists should bring a wire music stand.
