Most blues artists are like barrels of bourbon: They need years, decades even, of laying low in dark rooms before they are worth drinking in. But Matthew Curry is a glorious exception: His voice, like his guitar playing and songwriting, carries an authority and a soul that’s incredibly rare to find in someone so young. Fresh off a tour with the Steve Miller Band — Miller invited him to sit in every night, saying his talent was “in the Stevie Ray Vaughan area of virtuosity” — Curry and his band are ready for the spotlight. Now they come to B.B. King Blues Club to perform original songs (Curry’s “If I Don’t Got You” is one of NPR’s “5 Songs Public Radio Can’t Stop Playing”) but also cover classic blues tunes in a righteous style that’s all about hot guitar and great grooves.
