Raising Secular Jews: Book Launch at NYPL

    November 28, 2016

This unique literary study of Yiddish children’s periodicals casts new light on secular Yiddish schools in America in the first half of the twentieth century. Rejecting the traditional religious education of the Talmud Torahs and congregational schools, these Yiddish schools chose Yiddish itself as the primary conduit of Jewish identity and culture.

Come celebrate the recent publication of Naomi Prawer Kadar’s book by Brandeis University Press! You are invited for cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and comments by Prof. David Roskies, Prof. David Fishman, and Bonny Fetterman.

The event will take place at the McGraw Rotunda at the New York Public Library on Monday, November 28, between 7:30 and 9:30 PM. Please use the 42nd Street entrance and take the elevator to the 3rd floor.

Please direct questions and RSVPs to Lindsey Bodner at [email protected].
