NYC Council Member Jumaame D. Williams (D-Brooklyn) to be Honored with the “Friend of the Consumer”Award

as Fordham Law Hosts “What Color is Your Mortgage? Fair Lending Issues and the Mortgage Crisis in NYC”

    September 9

Fordham Law School’s Coalition for Debtor Education will host a panel discussion titled “What Color Is Your Mortgage? Fair Lending Issues and the Mortgage Crisis in NYC” on Wednesday, September 9, 2015, from 8:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. at Fordham Law School, 150 West 62nd Street, Constantino Room on the 2nd floor, in Manhattan. New York City Council Member Jumaane D. Williams will be honored with the 2015 “Friend of the Consumer” award.

Where you live often determines how you live: the schools your children attend; the jobs you have access to; the quality of your neighborhood and access to services; the level of crime. The only color that should matter to the mortgage market is green.

During “What Color Is Your Mortgage? Fair Lending Issues and the Mortgage Crisis in NYC,” a panel of lawyers from MFY Legal Services and Brooklyn A will explore the history of fair housing issues, from redlining in the 1930’s through decades of legislation to combat discrimination, an assessment of the current status, and suggestions on what to do now.

The Coalition will also honor Jumaane D. Williams (D-Brooklyn), NYC Council Member, Chair of the Council’s Committee on Housing and Buildings, with its 2015 Friend of the Consumer award in recognition for his work for affordable housing in New York.
