Flushing, New York April 8, 2014 –The New York Arm Wrestling Association (NYAWA) announced today that Quantum Wellness Healing Center and Spa is sponsoring the 37th Annual NYC Big Apple Grapple International Arm Wrestling Championships and crowning of the 2014 King and Queen of Arms. The event will be hosted and held at Cheap Shots Sports Bar (149-05 Union Turnpike Flushing, NY 11367) Sunday, April 27, 2014 at 1 p.m. Entry fees are $25 for amateurs, $30 for pros and $10 for women, which includes a free sponsor T-shirt. Competition is open to the public, age 18 years and older, and divided into right and left hand weight classes for men and women, in both amateur and pro categories. There is a $5 admission charge for spectators. Contestants are urged to register between 9 am to 12:50 pm as the event begins at 1 pm sharp. More than 100+ athletes are expected to participate both locally from the five NYC Boroughs, Ling Island from Upstate NY and from as far away as Turkey, Russia and Puerto Rica. First, second and third place winners will receive custom 4” engraved gold, silver and bronze medallions. The overall strongest male and female will be crowned MVP King and Queen of Arms and receive $100 cash prizes that will be awarded to the right and left handed male winners. Teams will also compete, grouped by Borough, State, and Country, with a point tally to determine the winning team.
“The event will draw both ‘hard-nosed pros’ and beginners to compete in their respective weight class categories,” said Gene Camp, founder and president of the NYAWA. With the new AMC TV arm wrestling realities show ‘Game of Arms’ this event is expected to be a sure blockbuster. We expect a daylong cheering captive audience with awesome demonstrations of sheer power, brute strength, exhausting endurance and explosive raw energy.”
