The Museum of Modern Art
11 West 53rd St., between Fifth and Sixth avenues
Sophie Taeuber-Arp: Living Abstraction, the first major US exhibition in 40 years to survey this multifaceted abstract artist’s innovative and wide-ranging body of work and Joseph E. Yoakum: What I Saw, the first major museum exhibition of the artist’s work in over 25 years, at The Museum of Modern Art (located at 11 West 53 Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues), open to the public on Sunday, November 21.
On view through March 12, 2022, Sophie Taeuber-Arp: Living Abstraction will explore the artist’s interdisciplinary approach to abstraction through some 300 works assembled from over 50 public and private collections in Europe and the US, including textiles, beadwork, polychrome marionettes, architectural and interior designs, stained glass windows, works on paper, paintings, and relief sculptures.
On view through March 19, 2022, Joseph E. Yoakum: What I Saw, is comprised of over 100 idiosyncratic and poetic landscape drawings by Yoakum drawn predominantly from the collections of the artists in Chicago who knew him. These extraordinary works depict the places the artist travelled to over the course of his life, yet bear little resemblance to the world we know.
