    ABOUT MANHATTAN COUNTRY SCHOOL

Manhattan Country School was founded in 1966 as an independent school where equality, social justice, diversity and the inspiration of Martin Luther King, Jr. would form the basis for children’s education. Today, MCS is a school with no racial majority, an economically balanced enrollment, an exemplary social justice curriculum and a working farm in the Catskill Mountains where students learn about sustainable and interdependent living through experience. The MCS mission, curriculum and practices have been replicated in public, private and charter schools in New York City and across the United States. In a country that is becoming ever more diverse and where sustainability is an increasing concern, MCS’ student body and curriculum are no longer utopian ideals, but reflections of the diversity, concerns and potential of the people of the United States today.
