The 2014-15 season of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine’s Knightwatch Medieval, an immersive overnight experience back to the days of kingdoms, knights, princesses and sword fighting, begins on Friday, October 10th at 6:30 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, located at 1047 Amsterdam Avenue (at 112th Street), Manhattan.

Knightwatch Medieval, designed for children ages 6 to 12, offers a blend of education, fun and fantasy in a unique, riveting setting. The sleepover transports children and chaperones back in time to the age of storybook kings, princesses and knights. Within the walls of the candle-lit Cathedral, children will engage in an interactive play and scavenger hunt led by a court jester, celebrate with medieval dancing and singing, create theme-based art projects including clay gargoyles and brass rubbings, and participate in a child-safe broadsword workshop. At the close of the evening, a resident storyteller will lull participants to sleep under the arches of the Nave. Accompanying the kids and adult chaperones on their journey into the medieval past, the Cathedral’s current art exhibit, Phoenix: Xu Bing at the Cathedral, will add to the magic and make-believe.

Comfortable cots are provided by the Cathedral, however guests are encouraged to bring their own sleeping bags. Additional slumber parties are scheduled for October 17th, May 29th and June 5th.

Tickets are available for $135 per participant. One adult chaperone must be on-site for every three children.  For further information or to purchase tickets please visit http://www.stjohndivine.org/families/nightwatch/knightwatch-medieval
