Kite Flight at Socrates Sculpture Park
SATURDAY, MAY 10, 2014
11:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Using recycled materials, children and their families draw inspiration from the park’s fantastic view of the Manhattan skyline to build expressive kites, and then fly them in the park.
Artist Miguel Luciano returns to lead a workshop centered on Caribbean kite traditions. Participants will produce handmade paper kites, personalizing them with text and graphics to form poems or personal statements in the sky, which explore ideas of flying, freedom, and community. Each kite-building workshop will take 90 mins and supplies will be provided. Workshop space is limited and participation will be on a first come, first served basis at the following times:
- 11:00 AM
- 11:30 AM
- 1:00 PM
- 1:30 PM
… and at 3 PM: Pakistan Kite Fighter exhibition with the Pakistani Students Association & Brooklyn Kites, celebrating the Basant tradition and welcoming the spring season to Socrates! Brooklyn Kites will be selling Pakistani kites throughout the day (beginning at $5).
