Grand Central Terminal plays host again this year to the J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions, the world’s largest squash spectator event, which includes top men’s and women’s players competing for one of the sport’s most coveted titles January 17-24, 2014, in the Terminal’s Vanderbilt Hall.
The Tournament of Champions is the only sports championship hosted annually in the Terminal. Played in a four-walled glass court under the Terminal’s spectacular chandeliers, the tournament is a Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Series event and annually draws the world’s top male squash players. The 2014 tournament features a Women’s Squash Association sanctioned (WSA) Gold Tour division, which will draw all the top women players in the world for the first time in a decade.
Expected to compete in the 2014 championships is defending men’s champion Ramy Ashour, the prodigiously talented Egyptian who occupied the #1 spot in the PSA rankings for 19 consecutive months starting in May 2012. Malaysian superstar Nicol David, the women’s world number one player who has occupied the top spot in the WSA rankings continuously for the past seven years, will make her first appearance on the glass court in Grand Central Terminal.
