This afternoon concert series only adds to the festive experience at the New York Botanical Garden’s annual Holiday Train Show. The Cassatt String Quartet is set to perform a collection of seasonal classics, with projected backdrops created by visual artist Rebecca Allen. The music and art provide extra holiday cheer to an already magical event in which large-scale model trains zip around a quarter-mile of fantastic landscape filled with replicas of 150 New York landmarks — including the Brooklyn Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, Rockefeller Center and Coney Island — created with nuts, bark, leaves and other plant parts. Stick around for intimate post-performance conversations with the artists, moderated by series curator and composer Laura Kaminsky. Kids who attend the special family concert get to learn about the various instruments and create a piece of art to take home.
