Salmagundi Club Focuses on Military Veterans’ Art and Words

    Exhibit Open from February 10 – 21, 2020

    Reception on February 12, 2020

As part of its on-going dialogue with the military community, the Salmagundi Club on New York (SCNY) is proud to present “From There to Here: Military Veterans’ Experiences”, a veteran-curated exhibit of military veterans’ art and words, opening on Monday, February 10th, its Patrons’ Gallery at 47 Fifth Avenue in Greenwich Village.

To highlight and augment the exhibit, the SCNY will host a reception on Wednesday, February 12th, 6:30 – 8:15 PM, featuring selected poetry readings from NYC-area veterans as well as a dance performance by Exit12, an outstanding NYC-based veteran dance company (http://exit12danceco.org/).

Partnering with Omar Columbus, a U.S. Air Force veteran and NYC-based photographer, the exhibition intends to foster a better understanding and dialogue within and between the
military and civilian communities. As an advocate and participant in veterans’ arts initiatives, he has brought together veteran art and experiences from the NYC-area and nationwide covering all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces across eras ranging from World War II through the present conflicts.

SCNY’s President Elizabeth Spencer notes, “Many veterans and the family members want to tell their stories, but those conversations can be difficult to start. Often, art can be a starting place to communicate with others.”

“This exhibit is a logical extension of our years-long successful sponsorship of the Coast Guard Art Program (COGAP). That program has involved many of our artist members in capturing the U.S. Coast Guard’s service, activities and history.”

The exhibit is open to the public at no charge, February 10 through February 21, 2020. The
gallery hours are Monday thru Friday 1 – 6 PM, and Saturday and Sunday 1 – 5 PM.

Updates and any other information related to this exhibit will be posted on the SCNY website at http://www.salmagundi.org/content.cfm/salmagundi/from-here-to-there-military-veteransexperiences/id/511
