Wednesday, May 18, at 6:30 pm

Museum of the City of New York
1220 Fifth Avenue at 103rd St.

Join the Museum of the City of New York for a performance by born and raised Yiddish performer, Mike Burstyn, and a panel discussion with historians, ethnomusicologists, and the curator of New York’s Yiddish Theater: From the Bowery to Broadway, Edna Nahshon. Nahshon will lead a brief tour of the exhibition before the event.

The Bowery was the birthplace of Yiddish theater and the music that fueled it. Although it was created by immigrants from Eastern Europe, it took off once the community laid down new roots in New York. With its unique and wildly popular musical numbers, Yiddish theater became an American phenomenon, deeply influencing Hollywood and the “Broadway” sound. Listen to live music, hear experts discuss how Yiddish Theater’s music helped it become the sensation it was, and tour the exhibition all in one night!

$30 for Museum members; $40 for adults; $35 for seniors and students
