The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, in partnership with FDNY, will salute our Bravest with a weekend of special events, live demonstrations, musical performances and more on Saturday, October 11th & Sunday, October 12th at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, located at Pier 86 (46th Street and 12th Avenue) in Manhattan.
Fire Department Appreciation Weekend, which wraps up National Fire Prevention Week, has become a popular Intrepid Museum tradition to recognize and honor our uniform members who put their lives on the line to protect us. This year’s special events include:
Saturday, October 11th:
The weekend will kick-off with a blessing ceremony to honor the FDNY Marine Fleet at 11:00 AM, including a wreath laying, FDNY bagpipers performance, a spectacular water display by the FDNY and procession of fireboats up the Hudson River.
Sunday, October 12th:
Cheer on your favorite musical act as active and retired firefighters hit the stage for our 4th annual “Battle of the Bands” performances beginning at 12:00 PM
Throughout the weekend, visitors can watch exciting FDNY demonstrations including tower ladder victim rescue, rope slides, forcible entry and “Jaws of Life” vehicle extrication, as well as appearances by Hotdog, the FDNY Fire Safety Mascot.
All activities are free and open to the public on Pier 86. For more information and an up-to-date listing of events, visit www.intrepidmuseum.org.
For the duration of Fire Department Appreciation Weekend, all firefighters, paramedics, EMTs and personnel with proper identification will receive free admission to the Museum, including the Space Shuttle Pavilion, featuring Enterprise.
