Daniel Eisenberg in conversation with Thomas Elsaesser following the screening.
Daniel Eisenberg’s essayistic film immerses the viewer in an industrial microcosm, presenting little more than the sound of a hammer striking sheet metal amid the silence of factory workers. Spun from a history of industrial and labor-based documentary cinema, it is a contemporary observation of the day-to-day work-life of people making cymbals, wall clocks and luxury automobiles in two different factories, one in Dresden and the other in Chicago. The sounds and images recorded at these locations collide to re-envision the nuances of modern factory work in a world that is increasingly mechanized and technologically driven.
