Stargaze from the flight deck of Intrepid during our Family Astronomy Night on Saturday, May 16, from 6:45pm–10:00pm at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, located at Pier 86 (46th Street and 12th Avenue) in Manhattan. This event will feature fun-filled and educational experiences for the whole family, including talks by astrophysicists, trivia with prizes and outdoor viewings!
Local astronomers will be on hand with their high-powered telescopes to help you navigate the night sky and answer any questions about astronomy and star-gazing. Guests are welcome to bring their own binoculars or look through the telescopes of the experts.
Visitors will meet astrophysicist Juan Ibáñez-Mejía and learn about the history of space exploration, including exciting new discoveries on the horizon, like the Orion mission to send astronauts to Mars. Also on hand will be astrophysicist Marcos Santander, who will explain cosmic rays in the universe and the mystery of their origin.
