The Very Reverend Dr. James A. Kowalski, Dean of the Cathedral, welcomes Professor Robert Thurman, world renowned authority on religion and specifically Tibetan Buddhist philosophy, and author Susan Brind Morrow, for an in-depth exploration of Morrow’s radical new translation of one of the world’s earliest and most complex body of writing, the 4,000 year old Pyramid Texts, for the next installment of the Cathedral’s Enter the Conversation series on Tuesday, May 10, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, 1047 Amsterdam Avenue (at 112th Street).
More than twenty years in the making, The Dawning Moon of the Mind: Unlocking the Pyramid Texts is a monumental achievement that delves into the origins of poetic and religious thought in western culture. Morrow’s stunning interpretation explores the relationship between time and eternity, life and death, humanity and nature. This conversation will look at the correlation between the earliest known hieroglyphs and their possible relationship to the foundations of Tibetan Buddhist philosophy and Christian mysticism.
The evening is presented as part of the Cathedral’s Enter the Conversation series, which invites world leaders, journalists, authors, and other top thinkers to discuss the most pressing social issues, in order to foster civic engagement and positive change.
