Paddle away with them! Celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival (端午节) with an afternoon of family fun–filled with pests, potpourri, and plenty more!

Stuff your own good luck charm! Fill a festive fabric sachet (xiang bao) with fragrant dried flowers and aromatic herbs.
Summer Solstice Sun Catchers
Let the sun shine through by designing a vibrant sun catcher to protect your home from the five poisonous pests.
Double Fifth Watercolors with Artist Jian Zhong
Paint a watercolor inspired by the scented herbs and festive flowers hung in homes during the Dragon Boat Festival, also known as the Double Fifth Festival.
Let’s Go, Team!
Show your spirit by creating a colorful team banner and a fun cheer to go along with it! Use your banner to root for your friends during the dragon boat races.
Whatever Floats Your Boat Design Challenge
Design a floatable mini dragon boat from bamboo, foam, or cork. Then test it out in a race! Will your boat float? Races held at the mini-pool every half hour.

Sweet & Savory Snacks: Zongzi Wrapping & Tasting with Sophia Hsu – 1:00 – 3:30 pm
Learn why zongzi—delicious, pyramid-shaped rice balls wrapped in bamboo leaves—are eaten during the Dragon Boat Festival. Then tickle your taste buds with a piece of mouthwatering zongzi!
Paddles Up!
Get energized! Explore the roles of dragon boat team members through an interactive activity that will keep you on your feet! Bring your cameras for a special photo opportunity.
Chinese Yo Yo Performance – 1:00 pm
Observe how practicing the Chinese Yo Yo is both a sport and an art. Watch 11 year old Alex Tai, 3 year ANJCS Champion, perform a short Chinese Yo Yo routine with tricks that are sure to make your head turn! Then practice your coordination by trying to balance a Yo Yo on a string.
Creepy Crawly Bug Hunt
Join MOCA on a gallery hunt to drive away the five poisonous pests and protect the museum. Bring your xiang bao for good luck!
Ink Brush Painting w/ the NY Chinese Cultural Center – 2:00 pm**
Join teaching artists from the New York Chinese Cultural Centerand learn how to paint beautiful landscapes—featuring mountains, forests, and more—using an ink brush and various colors of ink.
Legends Story Time
Travel back in time over 2,000 years as you follow Qu Yuan, a fabled poet, through his journeys, and learn how the Dragon Boat Festival came to be.
Classic Chinese Games – 3:00 pm
Indie board games are all the rage, but did you know that many classic Chinese games have been around for centuries? Learn the basics of Go and test your moves during real game play.
