In celebration of Christmas and its significance to the Christian community, The Riverside Church will host its annual Christmas Eve Children and Families Service, and Lessons and Carols Service.
The Service of Lessons and Carols at Riverside follows the basic service of nine “lessons” (scripture readings), which are read in alternation with nine carols. This service originated in Anglican worship practices, but is slightly modified to be a little more “Riverside.” In many such services, the music is very traditional – i.e. Anglican cathedral music. The Riverside Church will incorporate some of this repertoire, but also include Spirituals, world music and choral music of other traditions.
