New York City— From June 9-17, 2017, the Chelsea Music Festival will present its 8th annual summer season with an exploration of its theme “Measuring Time.” The Festival will present nine days of events throughout the Chelsea neighborhood and beyond in a wide-ranging exploration of pulse and time through the performing, visual and culinary arts.
Events will feature world-class artists in music ranging from Classical to Jazz, art exhibitions, curated dinners and receptions, Family Events, Panel Talks and Lectures by noted scholars, daytime Open-Air events and more. Music will include works by Telemann, Vivaldi, Beethoven, Messiaen and Cage, as well as world and New York premieres by Sebastian Currier, Tonia Ko, Miguel del Aguila, Helen Sung, Adam Birnbaum and Aaron Diehl.

In addition, the Festival has assembled a noteworthy roster of artists, featuring pianists Nicolas Namoradze, Robert Fleitz, Peter Fancovic and Mimi Solomon, French violinist Fanny Clamagirand, Austrian violinist Filip Pogády, American violinist Nicholas DiEugenio, and The Lee Trio. Jazz piano virtuosos and composers Helen Sung, Aaron Diehl and Adam Birnbaum will lead their ensembles and special guests in original compositions and arrangements. The Festival Talks series will present leading neuroscientist and Columbia University professor Dr. Michael Shadlen, and in partnership with the Beethoven-Haus Bonn, the conductor and Beethoven scholar Jan Caeyers. Collaborative Art Exhibitions that explore rhythm, memory and time will be on display at various Festival venues including Deutsches Haus at NYU, Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò at NYU and St. Paul’s German Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Award-winning filmmaker and Visual Artist-in-Residence Jonathan Rattner will host a screening of recent films dealing with time, pace, and presence. The first ever Gallery Walking Tour will lead through the Chelsea Gallery district and feature exhibitions around the Festival’s theme of ‘Measuring Time’. Culinary Artist-in-Residence and multi-faceted food artist Allie Wist will curate culinary explorations on the Festival theme through talks, receptions and food related visual art.
