    The annual Christmas Concert at St John the Divine features Gloria in excelsis Deo, J.S. Bach’s Christmas Cantata from 1745. This music, later parodied in his Mass in B minor, sets a joyful, triumphant text not only in tribute to the birth of Jesus, but also in commemoration of the Peace of Dresden, signed on Christmas Day in 1745. Splendid a cappella motets and beloved Christmas carols combine to usher in the holiday season.
