Blacktop Highway
November 4 – 19, 2016
At Dixon Place
Blacktop Highway, written and performed by the nationally renowned and groundbreaking artist John Fleck, is the next theatrical commission at Dixon Place. One of the infamous NEA-4, Fleck has been a prominent theatrical figure since 1990 when he and three other performance artists’ National Endowment for the Arts grants were withdrawn after being contested in a precedent-setting Supreme Court case. In Blacktop Highway, Fleck embodies more than 10 characters in the play, inspired by classic horror cinema and Freud’s theories of mind and ego. The production is inspired by classic horror cinema and weaves video and virtuosic theatrical staging with John Fleck’s remarkable vocal qualities, leading the audience into a darkly hilarious world of sex, greed and religion. Randee Trabitz is the director.
Tickets are $18 in advance, $22 at the door, and $15 for seniors and students and can be purchased by visiting www.dixonplace.org or by calling 866-811-4111.
