“Big, bold and beautiful” vocalist and U.S. Navy Veteran, Kim Sutton, brings her show, “Anchors Away,” back to New York for Fleet Week. Sutton uses her real-life experiences in the military of the 1980s as the platform for an ebullient, unflinching and touching look at Navy life for a teenage girl of limited means who made the choice for service as a route to education and adventure. Sutton uses a wide mix of music to tell her tale of youth, loyalty, and duty. With songs from Irving Berlin to Sara Bareilles, she recounts her excitement at becoming a sailor, the painful reality of reveille, and her inevitable transformation into a woman of substance.

There will be two performances, Sunday, May 17 at 5:00pm and Friday, May 22 at 7:00pm at Don’t Tell Mama, 343 West 46th Street (Between 8th and 9th Avenues). There is a $15 cover charge. Don’t Tell Mama is a CASH ONLY ROOM. The proceeds of this show will go to the Navy Seal Foundation. In addition, Kim will waive the cover charge for any service person who arrives in uniform. A newcomer to nightclub work, Sutton arrived in the entertainment world via her bucket list (which included the already achieved items: completing the Warrior Dash, Spartan Run, various triathlons, cliff diving, running two Tough Mudders and pole dancing, to name a few). Not one to do things in half-measure, she immediately began to work and study with Helen Baldassare, Marilyn Maye, Lennie Watts and Eric Michael Gillett. She has performed one other full length show, “Fifty Shades of Kim.”
