There were approximately 1.5 million Jews living in New York City by the time the Immigration Act passed in 1924, most of whom were immigrants or the children of immigrants. Join four historians, including: Rebecca Kobrin, Professor of History, Columbia University; Roberta Newman, Director of Digital Initiatives at the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research; Edward Portnoy, Adjunct Professor of Jewish Studies at Rutgers University and Academic Advisor at YIVO; Daniel Soyer, Professor of History, Fordham University; and moderator Annie Polland, Senior Vice President of Programs & Education, The Tenement Museum, as they dig into the YIVO Institute’s archives and present a rarely-seen portrait of New York Jewish life in the 1920s and 30s.
