At the Museum of the City of New York
Gilded New York: Decoding the Language of Luxury
Thursday, June 12, 9:30 am – 3:00 pm
Explore the objects that defined turn-of-the-century New York with the curators of Gilded New York: Phyllis Magidson, Jeannine Falino, and Donald Albrecht. This full-day event begins with a historical overview of the era by author David Garrard Lowe, followed by in-depth talks focusing on what we can learn about the social and economic lives of the city’s elite from material culture, including jewelry, costume, and interior design. Participants will enjoy private tours of the museum’s costume collection and the exhibition, gather for morning coffee and afternoon tea, and take home a signed copy of the companion publication.
Co-sponsored by The Beaux Arts Alliance.
$85 Museum members; $115 general public. Registration limited to 25.
