A Garden Dance Performance and Cocktail Reception at the Home of Architects Marcia Previti and Peter Gumpel
East Hampton, NY
Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre presents Green Afternoon VI, an annual interactive garden installation and performance at the home of architects Marcia Previti and Peter Gumpel in East Hampton, NY on Saturday, August 18, 2018 from 5pm-7pm.
The evening begins at 5 pm with cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and several outdoor sitting rooms featuring performance installations, with performers dancing in tree houses, on outdoor sculptures, in and around the swimming pool, in the woods, and more. After the moving installations, at 5:50 p.m., the audience will move to the lawn for a seated performance of Selwyn’s developing work Crossroads. Green Afternoon VI takes place at 230 Old Stone Hwy, East Hampton, NY 11937. Tickets are $100 and can be purchased at www.amandaselwyndance.org.
Crossroads is a new work in development by Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre scheduled to premiere in June 2019. The piece explores forging into unchartered waters and that tumultuous process of self-discovery. Inspired by the work of Margritte and Escher, Selwyn will collaborate with scenic & costume designer, Anna-Alisa Belous to shape a surrealistic landscape that highlights these lingering moments at the crossroads, choosing one path or another, and how these moments steer the course of our lives.
Dancers: Torrey McAnena, Jarred Bosch, Manon Halley, Adam Dickerson, Alex Cottone, Sarah Starkweather, and Maggie Westerfield. Costume and Scenic Design: Anna-Alisa Belous. Sound Design: Joel Wilhelmi.
To get to the performance site from the center of East Hampton, take Montauk Highway/Route 27 to first traffic light past windmill. Turn left onto Accabonac Highway. Please park on main road and walk up drive to first house on right.
Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre creates original and dynamic dance theatre that raises questions, challenges social norms and values, and magnifies humanity through dance. Productions pivot around core themes and through an interplay between athletic and pedestrian motion, activate emotional expression, character, and narrative in a rich and abstract collage. Presenting dance in an immediate, mature, and inclusive way, we engage audiences from start to finish and beckon a response of thought, feeling, and soul. www.amandaselwyndance.org
