On Wednesday, May 6, 2015 the Alzheimer’s Association, New York City Chapter will host a special event that examines the role of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia in literature. This will be the third presentation in the Chapter’s Annual Charles Evans Lecture on the Art and Science of Caregiving. Admission is free.

A panel of experts will explore the role of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia in literature, inspired by Stefan Merrill Block’s New Yorker article, A Place Beyond Words: The Literature of Alzheimer’s. The lecture will focus on why Alzheimer’s disease and dementia are so prevalent now in literature. The distinguished panel includes:

Stefan Merrill Block, author of The Story of Forgetting and The Storm at the Door, as well as the author of The New Yorker article, A Place Beyond Words: The Literature of Alzheimer’s.

Matthew Thomas, author of We Are Not Ourselves.

Carol Levine, researcher, author and Director of Families and Health Care Project of the United Hospital Fund, will serve as moderator. Levine most recently published, Living in the Land of Limbo: Fiction and Poetry about Family Caregiving and is an expert on issues of caregiving.

Jed Levine, Executive Vice President and Director of Programs & Services at the Alzheimer’s Association, New York City Chapter, will also deliver remarks.
