With the impending hustle and bustle of the holidays, we are happy to have vocalist, composer, and performance artist Samita Sinha performing a sneak peek of her acclaimed work Cipher at our final BRIClab of the fall season.
A trained singer in Indian classical music, Samita incorporates the Chinese body movement practice of Qigong, which is rooted in alignment, balance and mediation, into her work to create what she calls “body-sound.” In Cipher, she’ll use this unique method to channel her and the audience through the past and present, analog and digital, myth and history.
She will be joined by sound designer Dave Sharma, lighting designer Chris Kuhl, costume designer Anna Telcs, and sculptor Dani Leventhal. After each performance on Wednesday and Thursday, the evening will also feature a moderated discussion by experimental sound artist Bonnie Jones and Dr. Stephen Cowan, respectively.
