HARLEM, NY – (January 10, 2019) Excitement is building up, as opening night of the Harlem Fine Arts Show (HFAS) grows near. HFAS returns to the historic Riverside Church, 91 Claremont Avenue, New York, NY on Thursday, February 14th through Sunday, February 17th, 2019 for their coveted four-day exhibition and sale, youth empowerment programs and nightly VIP receptions. HFAS is proud to continue their special partnership with The Riverside Church and the fine artists that make up HFAS, during Black History Month.
The Harlem Fine Arts Show was created in 2009 to showcase artists and galleries of the African Diaspora. Its roots reach back to the Harlem Renaissance, the cultural movement in the 1920s that nurtured an unprecedented flowering of artistic talent in the visual and performing arts, poetry, and fashion. The four-day traveling exhibition and sale of contemporary paintings, sculpture and photography is the largest of its kind featuring art from the African Diaspora, in addition to art related programs.
This year’s annual HFAS will showcase and salute African Americans in Technology on Opening Night, in addition to raising awareness about technology as a career choice for young people. The Harlem Fine Arts Show is a celebration of African-American artistic history, in the vein of masters including Palmer C. Hayden, Augusta Savage, Romare Bearden, Elizabeth Catlett, Jacob Lawrence, and Ernie Barnes. The HFAS will showcase over 40 national and international artists and galleries offering investment-level art at multiple price points.
HFAS serves to find, nurture, and highlight artistic talent. HFAS has provided a new generation of art collectors and those with a general interest in increasing their appreciation for art with exposure to the artwork of masters. Additionally HFAS has served as the vehicle for celebrating contemporary artists like Mickalene Thomas, Kehinde Wiley and Leroy Campbell. The HFAS art will come alive in the exhibit galleries and through its exhibitions and events, revealing both new ideas and unexpected connections across time and cultures. HFAS is able to show all the different cultures and mediums of Fine art and bring Fine Art to the entire family. The HFAS visitors will discover new ideas and unexpected connections through art.
Opening Night Thursday, February 14th, the HFAS will host an Opening Night Preview event at 6:00 pm with a “Salute to African Americans in Technology”
Friday, February 15th, “Youth Empowerment Day”, • Uptown Friday Night @ HFAS – A sophisticated evening of “The Healing Power of Art,” HFAS will showcase and celebrate African Americans in the medical field, with a VIP dinner and awards ceremony, art exhibition & sale
Saturday Night Live February 16th Salute to Powerful Women of Color during an uplifting evening.
Sunday, February 17th, 1pm – 7PM Art Exhibition & Sale and VIP reception celebrating tri-state area Urban League chapters.
About The 2019 Harlem Fine Arts Show
As the largest traveling African Diasporic art show in the United States, HFAS prides itself on its uncanny ability to bring people of all different backgrounds together to celebrate fine arts of the African Diaspora. Inspired by the Harlem Renaissance, HFAS provides a platform for African Diasporic visionaries as well as American visual artists to exhibit and sell their artwork. The Harlem Fine Arts Show has also created economic empowerment, educational opportunities, and professional recognition within the multicultural community. First held in February 2010 in New York City, the Harlem Fine Arts Show has attracted more than 80,000 visitors to venues, including Martha’s Vineyard, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Chicago, White Plains and New York City. Attendees include collectors, art enthusiasts, educators, students, and professionals.
