Manhattan Vintage Clothing Show, the number one vintage clothing event in the world and one of the top shopping events of the year, returns this October to the Metropolitan Pavilion. The showcase brings together over 90 professional exhibitors from all over the world, each offering an unrivaled selection of men’s and women’s vintage clothing, accessories and textiles from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.
The show’s special exhibition, Mary McFadden: Cultural Modernist focuses on American Fashion Designer Mary McFadden, who pursued careers at Dior and Vogue before creating her own eclectic and exotic line in the 1970’s, inspired by Africa and the Orient.
With her strong sense of adventure and curiosity about the world, McFadden designed clothes that were completely unique for their time – spellbindingly recreated in luxurious fabrics and ornate embellishment. Her designs eschewed trends to instead be timeless evocations of other epochs and cults filtered through the eyes of a thoroughly modern working woman.

She has received many honors including two Coty awards, induction into the Coty Hall of Fame and the President’s Fellows Award of the Rhode Island School of Design. She has also served as President of the CFDA.
Says Manhattan Vintage’s David Ornstein, “Over the past few years we’ve really seen an increase in demand for McFadden’s designs. Her cultural and ethnographic designs from the 1970’s and 1980’s are fresh and modern even today.”
