Spring is finally here; kick off the biking season with hundreds of other cyclists and have your bicycle blessed at the 17th annual Blessing of the Bicycles celebration on Saturday, May 2nd, 9:00 AM inside the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, located at 1047 Amsterdam Avenue (at 112th Street), Manhattan.

The Rev. Canon Julia E. Whitworth, Canon for Liturgy and the Arts at the Cathedral, will officiate. During the ceremony she will offer a blessing to jump start a safe cycling season and sprinkle holy water on each bicycle. After the blessing, a rider-less bicycle will be brought forward during a moment of silence in remembrance of those who passed away in cycling accidents during the past year. Everyone will then ring their bicycle bells in celebration of the cycling season to come.

The blessing is free and open to the public. For more information, please visit http://www.stjohndivine.org/visit/calendar/events/events/9123/blessing-of-the-bicycles. To see footage from a previous year, please visit: http://tinyurl.com/bndonfa.
