10th Annual Socrates Sculpture Park Summer Solstice Celebration
Saturday, June 21 , 2014 | 5 PM – DUSK
Bring your friends and family to the 10th Anniversary of Socrates’ Solstice event to welcome the summer and celebrate the longest day of the year! Be creative in Solstice art-making workshops presented in partnership with Free Style Arts Association, Materials for the Arts, The Noguchi Museum, and Queens Museum; get your face painted by Agostino Arts; participate in a special Solstice ritual performed by Urban Shaman Mama Donna; have a picnic; and enjoy the view as the sun sets over the Manhattan skyline!
For this season’s Solstice celebration, Norte Maar presents an evening of site-specific sound performances encompassing the entire park. Noted sound artists will create unique sound platforms through traditional instrumentation, amplification of objects, juxtaposition of voices, and experimental electronic sound. Among the featured performers are Tristan Perch; the trio of Lesley Flanigan, Maria Chavez, and MV Carbon; Audra Wolowiec; and a special performance of David Tudor’s Rainforest I by Composers Inside Electronics. Additional performers will include Andrew Hurst and Shona Masarin, with others to be announced.
