On October 10, 2019, NYC politicians, dignitaries, notable members of our community as well as performers and other participants gathered within the Council Chambers of City Hall in celebration of the 2019 Italian Heritage Month.

Several days shy of the 75th Columbus Day Parade, the evening began with 19th District of the New York City Council Member, Paul Angelo Vallone‘s Welcoming remarks. Following was the American and Italian pledge of allegiance sung by Victoria Pinto, a senior at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts.

Thereafter, a benediction/invocation was spoken by honorable Peter Fortunate Vallone Sr, (and former council member). Following this were remarks by Council Member Mark Gjonaj who represents the 13th Council District in the Bronx. Mr. Gjonaj introduced and welcomed honoree Silvio Mazella who then gave his own speech.

Next up was Paul Vallone’s introduction of girls from the Landrum School of the Performing Arts with a wonderful dance performance. Francesco Genuardi, the Consul General of Italy then followed with his own remarks. This was followed by Council Member for District 43 of Brooklyn, Justin Brannan speaking and introducing honoree and former council member Vincent Gentile.

The evening was capped off with additional performances by Victoria Pinto; a poster presentation Joseph Sciame, President and Chairman of the Italian Heritage and Culture Committee of New York and closing remarks by Paul Vallone.
