Recently, in 1996, our Mayor and State Governor joined in the dedication
of this beautiful park. Located behind the World Financial Center
at and around Battery Park City, lies this 3.5 acre waterfront property.
Robert F. Wagner Jr. park was so named after this former NYC Mayor's
son who was a member of the City Council from Manhattan (1974-77)
and afterwards Chairman of the City Planning Commission (1978-79),
Deputy Mayor for Policy (1979-86), and President of the New York
City Board of Education (1986-90).
Here you've got great views of the harbor, Statue
of Liberty, Ellis Island and the dozens of boats you'll see
on virtually any day. It's really a beautiful little stretch of
waterfront property which even on cloudy days can provide you with
new perspectives on what being in Manhattan can be like. You're
bound to find joggers, skaters and even bicyclists along this patch
on clear days. To the northern end are the buildings which house
the many financial institutions known the world over, inside of
which are gorgeously polished floors, walls and even in one section,
an unobstructed view of the World Trade Center Site.
Within this park you'll also find the Museum
of Jewish Heritage - "A Living Memorial to the Holocaust"
a chance to take a ferry to New Jersey for a few dollars and plenty of
benches to relax on.
Should you be in the area during the summer, be sure to check out
New Yorkled's River
to River Schedule Calendar for events at the World Financial
Center and Winter Garden as well as at South Street Seaport which
are both nearby. Mind you, there's also the South
Street Seaport Museum Schedule and New Yorkled's Free/Cheap
Concerts Listing. There are events which take place here all
year 'round.
Nearby, are the following: City Hall, South
Street Seaport, Brooklyn Bridge,
World Trade Center, Museum
of the American Indian, Battery Park,
Financial District
