Built from 1901 - 1909 (just 9 months before the Manhattan
Bridge opened), this two level cantilever bridge is one of
two to span across the East River and connect Manhattan with
the borough of Queens. It's got a total length of 7,449 feet
and crosses right over Roosevelt Island. It's really quite
a view when you're driving into the city on the bridge, believe
it, New Yorkled would know. Crossing the bridge by foot or
bicycle is a real treat. It'll take you about 20 minutes or
so to cross it on foot? and if you really want to get some
spectacular views, then how about taking the Roosevelt Island
Tram which crosses the East River to connect Manhattan Island
with Roosevelt Island. At a cost of only $1.50 it's a real
gem that takes only minutes but will get you some awesome
views of the Queensboro Bridge!
Considered to be the busiest of the East River Bridges, the
Queensboro had a vehicular crossing total of 192,000 on your
average day in 1998. Bridge entrances are at 60th St./2nd
& 3rd Ave. in Manhattan and Queens Plaza and Crescent
St. in Queens.
