| At 526 acres this beautiful
park is located along the Park Slope section of Brooklyn.
Look on any city map and you'll find it easily. Within are
lush green lawns, lots of shaded areas to sit back and relax
on, baseball fields, playgrounds and a wooded section alongside
Prospect Lake, 60 acres of water alongside which you'll find
waterfowl. As you can see I got to photograph one drinking
from the lake itself. Unfortunately, 'till further notice,
the wooded section is closed off for renovation.
Once forest land, this Park was designed by Frederick Olmsted
and Calvert Vaux. Yes, those same men responsible for our
wonderful Central Park and Riverside Park. Vestiges and the
style of the time the park was built can be seen in the tunnels
and bridges of the park. Originally, there were no streams,
waterfalls or even a lake. All of the park, just like Central
Park, was manmade.
Today, over 6 million people visit the park annually. There
are always many activities/events in the Park during the summer.
Should you be in the area, well, check out Grand Army Plaza
located at one of the parks entrances, take a hike along one
of the roads which go through the wooded area. Sit back and
relax. I passed by recently on a weekday and you'd have never
thought that so many people visit the park annually. It was
all too comfortable.
