BOARDWALK BARRELS HAVE NEVER BEEN SO MUCH FUN

Taking place on the Coney Island Boardwalk, Between West 10th Street and West 12th Street, Brooklyn
Boardwalk Barrels of Fun is an art competition and family fun day. Artists all of all ages will be painting the trash receptacles that will be used on the Boardwalk for the summer beach season. They will be adorned with seascapes, landscapes and carnival theme art in keeping with Coney Island’s colorful history.
Participating artists will use their talents to beautify the Coney Island Boardwalk.
Special guest judges will evaluate the art on its originality, theme, creativity, use of color and overall pizzazz. Categories include: Family (for young children and their parents or guardians), High School Artists, College Artists and Open Competition (for adults). Winners will then be announced at the annual Beach Opening Ceremony this May.
Boardwalk Barrels of Fun is sponsored by the Parks Department, Deno’s Wonder Wheel, Astroland, and the Friends of the Boardwalk.

The 4th Annual Shearing of the Heather at Fort Tryon Park

Learn about the historic churches that were stopovers for the Underground Railroad and about the development of an area that was once called Manhattan's "closest country retreat." Meet at the entrance to the Heather Garden on Margaret Corbin Circle where Cabrini Boulevard and Fort Washington Avenue converge.

In conjunction with the Havana Film Festival of New York, The Bronx Museum will hold its FREE First Fridays! program, Azúcar! on the third Friday in April. Reinforcing the Museum’s dedication to providing free world-class events to the Bronx community and beyond, the showcase will feature a night of live DJ and band performances celebrating the arts and music of Cuba, and a screening of the film “Havana Kidz II.”
A new series launched in 2007, First Fridays! offers film screenings, art performances, music and other special events the first Friday of every month.

Warsaw Ghetto Uprising Commemoration at Riverside Park

"Seaport Idol" - Annual Street Performer Auditions

The “2008” Street Performer Auditions and Registration will take place on-site the day of auditions starting at 11am for the morning session and 5pm for the evening session.
they seek self-contained acts such as musicians, magicians, mimes, balloon artists, jugglers, acrobats, singers and dancers. Auditions will take place on the pier and in the case of inclement weather, the atrium.
Candidates chosen will be placed on their “2008” Street Performing Roster” and will notified by mail. Compensation is on a “pass-the-hat” basis. |
