With over 200 trees in bloom, Brooklyn Botanic Garden's
flowering cherries take center stage during this phenomenal
weekend celebrating Japanese culture with over 60 events
and performances. Enjoy traditional Japanese music and
dance, taiko drumming, ikebana flower arranging, bonsai
pruning, tea ceremonies, craft demonstrations, and workshops
for both adults and children.

The Bronx Museum Presents "Bronx Poets Read"

Hop on the Bronx Council on the Arts’ (BCA) Culture Trolley to join The Bronx Museum for “Bronx Poets Read,” an exciting evening with fresh new voices from the borough. Featuring Poet/Performance Artist Josefina Baez, who will read from her book of poems Comrade Bliss Ain’t Playing. Also reading from his book of poems, Daydreams and Shadows, will be Ani Rumaer, a Bronx-based author/poet/educator. Admission: Free
There will also be FREE guided tours of the Museum’s current exhibit Intersections: The Grand Concourse at 100, celebrating the centennial of the Bronx’s most famous thoroughfare.

Brooklyn Botanic Garden in past years and it's truly a stunning
scene for the splendid Cherry Trees as they've sprouted,
bloomed, yawned and loved and yours truly has always walked
away refreshed and reborn after being embraced by these living
beauties.

BOARDWALK BARRELS HAVE NEVER BEEN SO MUCH FUN

Judging starts at 1:00 pm
Boardwalk Barrels of Fun is an art competition and family fun, one-day event at the beginning of the Coney Island Amusement season. The goal is to paint the trash receptacles that will be used on the boardwalk with colorful seascapes, landscapes and carnival theme art.
Everyone can participate. The competition is in four categories: family (geared for younger kids and their parents), high school artists, college artists, and open (geared for adults).
Special guest judges will look at originality, following theme, creativity, use of color, and pizazz. There will be a first place, runner-up and honorable mention winner in each of the categories.
Bring clothes you don’t mind getting paint on and a great imagination. Our sponsors will provide paint, brushes, mixing containers and barrels. All registered participants will get a free painters cap.
To register, call the Parks Brooklyn Special Events Office at (718) 965-8993. We encourage pre-registration but we will try to accommodate participants that show up on event day.

The 5th Annual Shearing of the Heather at Fort Tryon Park

The 3-acre Heather Garden is the site of our annual rite of spring – the shearing of the heather by members of the Northeast Heather Society and garden staff. In addition to the shearing, visitors can take tours of the garden, hear Bagpiping and drumming and join a children’s workshop while enjoying the garden’s spring beauty and panoramic views of the Hudson River and New Jersey Palisades.

Preserving New York City's Smallest Islands: Hart Island

The presentation, sponsored by the Roosevelt Island Historical Society, will be held on Tuesday, April 7 at 6:30 pm at the Roosevelt Island Branch of the New York Public Library, 524 Main Street. The event is FREE.
The presentation is the first in a series of four events, “Preserving New York’s Smallest Islands,” which focuses on Hart, Ellis, Randall’s and Roosevelt Islands.
DIRECTIONS: Take the Tram at 59th Street and Second Avenue or the F train to Roosevelt Island. Walk 10 minutes north on Main Street or take the red bus (25 cents).

Seventh Annual Kite Making Workshop

Socrates Sculpture Park and The Noguchi Museum are proud to present the seventh annual kite making workshop and flying event. This free hands-on workshop will take place at Socrates Sculpture Park and welcomes children of all ages to participate. Using recycled paper, children and their families can draw inspiration from the Park’s fantastic view of the Manhattan skyline to build and decorate a kite, and then fly it in the Park.
Advance registration is not required, but space is limited, so come early! The workshop is free and will be held - rain or shine - in the education area at Socrates Sculpture Park. All materials and supplies will be provided.

Take part in the spectacle to end all others wherein years
past millions of folks have witnesses the launching of
balloon after balloon into the expansive skies of New Jersey.
For over 23 years this festival has wowed spectators with
its tons and tons of balloons on a 250-acre site. Taking
place in Readington, New Jersey you're bound to ooh and
