Life in the Colonies: A Celebration of 18th Century Life at Van Cortlandt House in Van Cortlandt Park

The festival celebrates the sights and sounds of a typical 18th century market day.  Market days were an opportunity for the community to gather to socialize, eat, drink and purchase the goods being sold by craftsmen.  At this market day, craftsmen will demonstrate their authentic skills and attendees will be able to try their hand as well—churning butter, dipping a candle or making a cornhusk doll.  Benjamin Franklin will also make a special guest appearance.

29th Annual Korean Parade Marches Into New York
Saturday, October 3 from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm

Korean art, culture, sports and civic pride will be on spectacular display as the Korean Parade marches down Sixth Avenue on Saturday, October 3. The event, organized by the Korean-American Association of Greater New York, includes the Parade as well as Korean Music and Food Festivals. More than 200 organizations and 5,000 people are expected to march. Electric violinist Eugene Lee, a former Juilliard protégé, who has gone on to sell more than a million CDs and who performs at the Village Underground, will be performing at the Music Festival.

Annual Fort Tryon Park Medieval Festival

Enjoy this day of true fun which is sure to put a smile on your face and probably make you giggle with joy before you event step foot deep onto the grounds. Heck, last time we attended this fair we were laughing on our way in. With costumed folks all over the place armed with wit and charm equal to some of the finest comedian around. Believe us when we say you won't be sorry for attending this event!

The festival is a unique chance to experience the medieval period in the most authentic setting this side of Europe. The area around the Cloisters Museum in Fort Tryon Park is transformed into a medieval market village where knights in armor, jugglers, jesters, magicians, musicians, storytellers, and puppeteers will perform. A blacksmith, manuscript illuminator, pottery decorator, wood carver and other artisans will demonstrate their crafts. Performers and fairgoers dress in historical costumes. Medieval food is available and craft items will be sold. The afternoon culminates with a jousting event between knights on horseback!

Each year, New Yorkers participate in Parks’ annual Citywide Bocce  Tournament.  Teams of four compete to represent their borough in the finals and for the chance to be crowned best bocce team in the city. Last year, 85 teams of four competed in one of the country’s largest bocce tournaments for the chance to be crowned best bocce team in the city. Winning teams will receive up to $1,000 in cash prizes, bocce sets, VIP Grandstand tickets at the Columbus Day Parade and the opportunity to march.
As per U.S. Bocce Federation Rules, the tournament is based on double-elimination. Teams must arrive at 8:00 am to sign in.

New York City's Largest Hands-On Volunteer Event
