October is pumpkin month at the Farm Museum! Enjoy wandering through

Life in the Colonies: A Celebration of 18th Century Life at Van Cortlandt House in Van Cortlandt Park

The festival celebrates the sights and sounds of a typical 18th century market day. Market days were an opportunity for the community to gather to socialize, eat, drink and purchase the goods being sold by craftsmen. At this market day, craftsmen will demonstrate their authentic skills and attendees will be able to try their hand as well—churning butter, dipping a candle or making a cornhusk doll. Benjamin Franklin will also make a special guest appearance.

Annie Proulx won the Pulitzer Prize for The Shipping News, and is also the author of the novels Postcards, That Old Ace in the Hole and Accordion Crimes, as well as the story collections Heart Songs, Bad Dirt and Close Range. She considers herself a roving citizen of North America with heart-felt attachments to several European countries as well as New Zealand, Australia, Japan and lesser-known corners of the world. For now she lives and writes in Wyoming under the shadow of a crumbling cliff.
