Annual Halloween Day Parade in Greenwich Village

The theme for this year is "Here be Dragons"
Join the many who gather to celebrate this annual parade in NYC's
Village. As a matter of fact, if you've got a costume then why not
march along? Any costume will do!
Yup! the Great Parade isn't the only thing that's always going
on in town at this time of year. From entertainment at the local
NY Botanical Garden and Brooklyn Botanic Garden, to the "Boo
at the Zoo" and even celebrations at other points in the city,
there's plenty for the entire family and the kid in all of us! The
South Street Seaport, Chelsea Piers, Central Park and the Cathedral
of St. John the Divine are just some of the hot Halloween spots.
Life in the Colonies: A Celebration of 18th Century Life at Van Cortlandt House in Van Cortlandt Park

The festival celebrates the sights and sounds of a typical 18th century market day. Market days were an opportunity for the community to gather to socialize, eat, drink and purchase the goods being sold by craftsmen. At this market day, craftsmen will demonstrate their authentic skills and attendees will be able to try their hand as well—churning butter, dipping a candle or making a cornhusk doll. Benjamin Franklin will also make a special guest appearance.

stunts, acrobatics and music. Of course that's not all!
On Thursday, October 1st, the waterfront neighborhood of DUMBO will welcome art lovers and fun seekers to explore its art-filled gallery spaces as they celebrate with receptions, live musical performances and artist/curator talks.
Korean art, culture, sports and civic pride will be on spectacular display as the Korean Parade marches down Sixth Avenue on Saturday, October 3. The event, organized by the Korean-American Association of Greater New York, includes the Parade as well as Korean Music and Food Festivals. More than 200 organizations and 5,000 people are expected to march. Electric violinist Eugene Lee, a former Juilliard protégé, who has gone on to sell more than a million CDs and who performs at the Village Underground, will be performing at the Music Festival.
From Chili related events taken from the wildest part of your imagination to tastings, samplings and overall a festival to burn your tongue in such a sumptuous fashion. This here is the Chili Pepper Celebration to end all others. A true delight for the Chili lover in you. There'll also be music and plenty more on hand. Annual Fort Tryon Park Medieval Festival October 4, 2009 from

Enjoy this day of true fun which is sure to put a smile on your
face and probably make you giggle with joy before you event step
foot deep onto the grounds. Heck, last time we attended this fair
we were laughing on our way in. With costumed folks all over the
place armed with wit and charm equal to some of the finest comedian
around. Believe us when we say you won't be sorry for attending
this event!
The festival is a unique chance to experience the medieval period
in the most authentic setting this side of Europe. The area around
the Cloisters Museum in Fort Tryon Park is transformed into a medieval
market village where knights in armor, jugglers, jesters, magicians,
musicians, storytellers, and puppeteers will perform. A blacksmith,
manuscript illuminator, pottery decorator, wood carver and other
artisans will demonstrate their crafts. Performers and fairgoers
dress in historical costumes. Medieval food is available and craft
items will be sold. The afternoon culminates with a jousting event
between knights on horseback!

Pick your own Pumpkin
SATURDAYS and SUNDAYS
October is pumpkin month at the Farm Museum! Enjoy wandering through
the planting field to find your favorite pumpkin. Price of pumpkins
will be determined by weight. A fun farm treat for the whole family!
Admission to the pumpkin patch is free.
Tickets are $20 for general admission and $100 for the six-performance series. Patron tickets, including a reception after each recital, are $50 each and $250 for the series.
Science enthusiasts are invited to enjoy the Museum after hours with music, drinks, and thought-provoking conversation at the kick-off of the new monthly series SciCafe. Surrounded by magnificent rock and mineral specimens in the Gottesman Hall of Planet Earth, guests will have a chance to mingle as AMNH astrophysicist Ben Oppenheimer discusses exoplanets, or planets outside our solar system, as well as his search for a hypothetical Earth-twin and signs of habitability in nearby planetary systems.

Each year, New Yorkers participate in Parks’ annual Citywide Bocce Tournament. Teams of four compete to represent their borough in the finals and for the chance to be crowned best bocce team in the city. Last year, 85 teams of four competed in one of the country’s largest bocce tournaments for the chance to be crowned best bocce team in the city. Winning teams will receive up to $1,000 in cash prizes, bocce sets, VIP Grandstand tickets at the Columbus Day Parade and the opportunity to march.
As per U.S. Bocce Federation Rules, the tournament is based on double-elimination. Teams must arrive at 8:00 am to sign in.

Over this weekend there'll be about a couple hundred more or less sights and locales that
will be open for tours, free of charge throughout New York City's
Five Boroughs.
From some grand museums, big and small to many other not often
open-to-the-public spots that'll be open for tours.
The race is one of the premier 10K’s held in all New York City. Given its proximity to the NYC Marathon, many athletes see Restoration’s 10K as a “warm up” to their long-distance run in November. However, people of all fitness levels and ages are attracted to the race which has become a much anticipated community event.
