Gingerbread Adventures at the NY
Botanical Garden's Everett Children's Adventure Garden in the Bronx
November 21, 2009 - January 10, 2010
Tuesday - Friday: 1:30 am - 5:30 pm
Weekends: 10:00 am - 5:30 pm
This "sense-sational" and magical holiday adventure
beckons kids to smell, touch, and taste the spices and other
plant parts that make up a gingerbread recipe. They'll discover
that cinnamon comes from the bark of a tree, ginger root from
an underground stem, and cloves from the bud of a clove tree.
They can also grind spices, make spicy sachets and ornaments,
and decorate gingersnap cookies.
New this year are the Winter Wonderland of Gingerbread Houses
in the Bendheim Global Greenhouse and a tie-in to the popular
children's story The Gingerbread Man. There's also a display
of drawings of magnified spices, and kids can use microscopes
to examine spices for their own botanical illustrations. |
