Celebrate the lives the lives of men and women of faith and courage with stories, prayers, and jazz meditations by Theodicy Jazz Collective at St. Paul’s Chapel in Lower Manhattan (Broadway at Fulton Street) on Sunday afternoons during Lent. This year’s reflections honor Mahatma Ghandi (02/26), Wangari Maathai (03/04), Martin Luther King, Jr. (03/11), Oscar Romero (03/18) and Nelson Mandela (03/25).
Theodicy Jazz Collective is a group of musicians committed to ministry through the creative, spiritual power of music. The collective has a unique sound influenced by the spirituals and gospel music of the African-American church, as well as progressive jazz and world music.

Angela Gheorghiu and Roberto Alagna take on the leading roles in Puccini’s rarely heard opera, which returned to the Met for the first time in more than 70 years on New Year’s Eve 2008. Nicolas Joël’s atmospheric production places the action at the time of the opera’s premiere in the 1920s. Approximate running time: 113 minutes
Wednesday, August 31, 7:45 pm: NIXON IN CHINA
John Adams conducts the Met premiere of his groundbreaking 1987 work, in a production by longtime collaborator Peter Sellars, in his Met debut. The opera explores the human truths behind the headlines surrounding President Nixon’s historic 1972 encounter with Communist China. James Maddalena stars in the title role. Approximate running time: 158 minutes

This Live in HD presentation of Bizet’s masterpiece, starring Elīna Garanča as the seductive gypsy of the title, drew a record audience for its original transmission. On more than
one occasion yours truly has had the wonderful opportunity
to witness what goes on at this locale last year and
allow me to tell you! It was quite the occasion!
Although the music on each particular night was neither
the sort that I'd venture out of my way to purchase
nor witness, these performances were wholeheartedly the
type that makes one wonder, Gee! What took me so long
to experience them in the first place? We're not guaranteeing
that they'll be your cup of tea but they're definitely
worth investigating at least once.

The Chelsea Art Museum is proud to present for the third consecutive year World of Jazz, a concert series, developed in collaboration with jazz saxophonist Lars Haake. World of Jazz features talented emerging artists on the New York Jazz scene, who focus on the distinctly international character of contemporary jazz.
Concerts take place in the museum’s exhibition space, where the visual and performing arts come together to create a truly unique cultural experience for audiences. 46 concerts by jazz’s hottest talents and most valued treasures—with New Orleans-style second line performances snaking through three Manhattan neighborhoods. The launch on Monday, June 21 will be part of the Make Music New York Festival. Jazzmobile’s Summerfest is the oldest continuous summer jazz festival in New York.
“This year’s Summerfest line up is a particularly exciting mix of some of the hottest new talent together with many of our most treasured legends,” said Jazzmobile President Robin Bell-Stevens. “And thanks to our underwriters, we’re in city parks and neighborhoods in all five boroughs.”
The Stuyvesant Town Oval sits at the center of a scenic park surrounded by 80 acres of beautiful lawns and trees. Residents and visitors come to the Oval to picnic on the lawn, play frisbee, and stock-up on fresh produce at the Greenmarket, which returns this summer. Music on the Stuyvesant Town Oval
Music on the Oval, a unique outdoor summer concert series, will bring the sweet sounds of rock, funk, reggae, and soul to the famed Stuyvesant Town Oval every Wednesday night from June 10 – July 15. Sponsored by Verizon, Music on the Oval will feature free family-friendly concerts at 7:00 pm New Yorkers and visitors will groove to a different pre-show DJ each night starting at 6:00 pm

other featured concerts....'we'll all be in a dancing frenzy
as we move to the beat of so many musical performances.

There's plenty going on
at this wonderful stretch of parkland along Manhattan's upper
west side. This park which stretches from 68th street all
the way up to 155th street will play host to quite a bit
of goings on the entire year through.

Park is located just beside the Cathedral
of St. John the Divine. So's to make the best of your
day, consider walking around the area and taking in the
awesome existence of this wonderful locale! Although the
Church may or may not be open for visitors during the
time of these concerts, the grounds themselves
MIGHT BE ACCESSIBLE.

Central Park Brass is in need of Volunteers to help with program distribution and "stage" management/production at the following concerts listed there to the right. If you are able to offer a few hours of your time to help produce these community musical experiences, please call 646 201 5242. They need two volunteers per event, starting two hours before the concert time and ending one hour after the conclusion of the concert. Volunteers receive invitations to special Friends of Central Park Brass events.
The
Central Park Brass in NYC, a professional brass quintet, operating
as a non-profit has free upcoming concerts and programs in
Manhattan. In case of heavy rain, concerts will be rescheduled.
