Co-presented by La Terraza 7 Train Cafe and Flushing Town Hall, the sounds of the Pacific coast of Colombia are back at Flushing Town Hall. Hear the Afro-Colombian traditions by the great marimbist, Chonta player, singer, composer/arranger, percussionist and instrument maker, Diego Obregón. Learn dance moves to pair with traditional Cumbia music or simply spend an afternoon soaking up the vibrant music of Colombia.

Korean Culture Forum series was designed to create a dialogue among cultural leaders about Korean culture. Sonagi Project: Barame Soop (Forest, Wind and Rain)
A Korean percussion group consisting of five musicians, led by Chang Jea Hyo, with original music based on Korean traditional rhythms and chants. Inspired by Korea’s shamanic culture and the vocal art of Pansori, Sonagi’s performances express the pathos and dynamic energy of Korean traditional music. “Barame Soop” is built around janggu (two-headed, hour-glass shaped drums), gongs, and pansori (narrative, story-telling, folk opera). Various NYC artists who have worked with the Sonagi Project during their residency at FTH will also perform. Starts at 8:00 PM.
Saturday, October 20 INTERACTIVE PUPPETRY WORKSHOP: GUYI-GUYI
For Families: For ages 8 and up. Maximum 25 Participants. Join master puppeteers from the Periferia Theater project in Murica, Spain in a workshop that brings the art of puppetry to children. Children can see the puppets from the show Guyi-Guyi and learn the art of puppetry by creating a puppet with their own hands and a few beads to develop characters, creativity and teamwork. Participants will improvise a brief puppet show. Children will show their improvisations to the group and be able to take their puppets home. Starts at 1:00 PM.

For Families: Guyi-Guyi is a crocodile who is accidently born into a family of ducks. Guyi-Guyi is happy with his family until, one day he is lost and finds himself with another crocodile. Based on the children’s book by Twainese author Chih-Yuan Chen, Guyi-Guyi is an award-winning puppetry play performed by Pereferia Teatro, a professional children’s theater company from Barcelona, Spain. This humorous piece helps children will help children reflect on the fears of being different. Starts at 2:15 PM.

Saturday, November 3 Zen Meditation Workshop For Families
For Families: Learn how to meditate with your whole family! Zen (Korean: Seon) is an ancient technique of meditation that can be enjoyed be everyone in the family, kids included. We will do some simple exercises and try a brief sitting period all together. There will also be some teachings about meditation that are appropriate for kids, and a chance to ask questions. All children must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 years and over. Starts at 1:00 PM.
Saturday, November 3 Zen Meditation Workshop
Adults only. People from every religion practice meditation as a way of getting more in touch with their inner being. It can also be a very useful way of learning to relax and relieve the stress of daily life. During this program we will do some brief breathing exercises that prepare use for meditation, practice sitting meditation for 20 minutes, and then have a chance for a lecture, as well as questions and answers.
