MEN AND WOMEN COME TO GRIPS IN FINAL SHOWDOWN!

The New York Arm Wrestling Association will present the 32nd Annual Empire State Golden Arm Tournament of Champions to be held on Thursday, November 12, 2009 beginning at 12:30 p.m. at the Port Authority Bus Terminal’s (North Wing/Main Concourse) at 625 8th Avenue New York, NY. 10018. -- Over 100 men and women will compete for the chance to be crowned Empire State Golden Arm Champion and spectators have an opportunity to watch the event for free. The Competition has no residency requirements and is also open to the public for a $25 entry fee for amateurs and $35 for pros which includes a free T-shirt. There are 13 weight class categories for men and women and contestants are asked to weigh-in and register before noon. The Sponsors are Supercuts and Captain’s of Crush Grippers.

Over $5,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded and all first, second and third place finishers will receive custom engraved 4” Olympic-size medallions. Male and female “NY State Strongest Arm” MVP’s will be crowned with bonus cash prizes and the 2009 NYC Arm Wrestler of the year will be chosen. Pros receive first place cash prizes while amateurs will receive awards only.

"The Empire State Golden Arm Championship is New York City’s oldest and most prestigious sought-after title”, said Gene Camp, founder and president of the New York Arm Wrestling Association (NYAWA).” Camp continued, “This event is a culmination of our 32nd anniversary season and it’s going to be a very exciting to watch because the event is loaded with top talent from all over the tri-state area and far beyond.” The Empire State Championship is the final event of the New York Golden Arm Series where three preliminary championships were held this year for both amateurs and pros.

This event will feature contestants those who qualified from each of the five NYC Boroughs, Long Island and beyond.  Among those expected to compete are the NYC Queensboro Strongest Arm Champions Jason Vale from Bellerose, Queens; a former NYC King of Arms and National Champion and Mirline Berrouet from South Ozone Park, Queens - Berrouet has won more than 15 professional arm wrestling titles in her career including Empire State and National championships. Two other champions expected to compete are Brooklyn natives and Strongest Arm title holders Joyce Boone and Giorgi Gelashvili. Gelashvili from Sheepshead Bay outdid himself this year by pounding the competition at the NYC Big Apple Grapple International held in the Javits Center by winning the prestigious 2009 NYC King of Arms Title with his uncanny ability to beat all comers with brute strength, tenacity and relentless endurance.  In addition, the 2008 Empire State Champions will also return to defend their titles and the 2009 NYC Big Apple Grapple champions are featured in this multi-talented high profile arm wrestling event. Contestants and teams are expected to compete from far away as Russia, Brazil and Turkey.
