On December 13th, 2001, the beautiful Dana Discovery Center was transformed into a Gingerbread House through the magic of illumination never before seen in NYC.

This event which included special performances by the Boys Choir of Harlem and a Gospel Brass Band made a December Evening, originally forecast as dreary and wet, one to remember. By the way, it didn't rain and the weather was quite warm for a late Autumn Day!...could it have been a sign or a Godsend? Perhaps a Blessing?

Nonetheless, there were treats for the kids through Natural Ornament Making activities and refreshments as well....'nothin' like Apple cider and cookies to make the evening warm and fuzzy! Don'tcha think?

Responsible for this festive evening is the Women's Committee of the Central Park Conservancy who has lit the holiday tree in this part of Central Park for four years. 'But this year, the dedication went to the children of the victims of September 11. As was mentioned: "...this holiday will be one of the most difficult in memory, the children of New York will need this celebration's message of peace, hope and goodwill more than ever..."

Well, ladies, gentleman, members of the Central Park Conservancy and otherwise, I for one thank you for helping to heal the child within me.

The Illuminated Gingerbread house can be seen daily from dusk to 9:30pm until Saturday, December 29th, 2001.

This Close up from the entrance to Central Park doesn't tell you how you can hear the great sound coming from the Meer...
But that great music within was a welcome mat to anyone who passed by!

The Christmas Tree at the Dana Discovery Center

This sweet little girl proudly showed me what she'd created at the Ornament Workshop.
Heck, I nearly picked something up for the sake of being a kid again!
special thanks to the Central Park Conservancy!

This member of the Gospel Brass Band present really put on a show! He played his trombone with a flair and spirit that really had me going! New Yorkled sends many thanks to him and his fellow band members.
New Yorkled wishes to express apologies to the other band members.
Technical problems kept from obtaining photos of them....but you guys were great!

The Boys Choir of Harlem was a nice addition to the festivities held.
Thank you for your presence and your wonderful singing!
The performance you gave shows that you've put a great deal into your rehearsals!...Again, Thanks!
