"See the Children through the Trees"
New York City has the most AIDS orphans in the Western World — some 50,000 kids already orphaned or living precariously in a home where a parent struggles, often alone, with this disease. This fact may come as a shock to you. These kids are rarely discussed in public policy. There are no NYC (or federally) funded support programs for them. New York City with all its statistics, even with a special patrol to count potholes, does not bother to count these children so we can only estimate their numbers.
That is why we have called this exhibit, "See the Children Through the Trees." Through the extraordinary and beautiful range of tree paintings and artwork, we hope you will also start to see these children.
For orphaned and NYC parentless children, a bid today on a Tree artwork is a chance for them to grow as beautifully as we would wish for children and trees alike.
How to Bid:
Bid on all artworks, including the unique celebrity "leaf" autographs, at the silent auction in the lobby gallery of the Condé Nast Building lobby, located at 4 Times Square (Broadway between 42nd and 43rd Streets).
From 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM from September 2nd through Thursday, October 15 or at the exciting live auction and gala at the lobby gallery on Thursday October 15th from 6:00 to 9:00 PM.
Benefitting Health People's Kids-Helping-Kids mentoring program, which trains older kids with ill, missing or dead parents to be mentors for younger kids in the same tough situation. Started 15 years ago on the desperate plea of mothers with AIDS to help their kids, it is now recognized as a national model for positively helping the ever increasing number of parentless kids. This program still has no goverment support. For more information, please call 212-729-0834 or 631-283-9130 - E-mail: alchmyst (at) msn.com
