In addition the special events and appearances, staff of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum Education Department will lead interactive demonstrations, jeopardy games, and activities related to flight, space, water and life at sea for families each day. Join them for hands-on fun discovering the properties of water, how Intrepid floats, how airplanes fly, how the crew lived, how an aircraft carrier works and more.

Two new temporary exhibitions will also be open to visitors during “Kids Week:” “Mission to Mars” and “Snoopy as the World War I Flying Ace.”

“Mission to Mars” displays a timeline of the American space program from President John F. Kennedy’s race to the moon speech to the current Rovers on Mars, and includes a full-scale model of the current Mars Rovers. Special emphasis is placed on the role that the USS Intrepid played while acting as a space capsule recovery ship for the Mercury 7 and Gemini 3 NASA missions.

“Snoopy as the World War I Flying Ace” showcases Charles M. Schulz’s lovable beagle Snoopy’s imaginary journeys through the skies of Europe from the time he faced a deadly bout of influenza to sparring with the Flying Ace’s archenemy, the Red Baron. More than 25 digital prints from the original drawings done by Schulz will be on display alongside a photograph of the artist. Accompanying Schulz’s scenes of Snoopy is artwork featuring the Peanuts gang that was created by crewmembers serving aboard the USS Intrepid.

“Kids Week” activities and temporary exhibits are free with the price of admission to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. Tickets for the museum are available for purchase at www.intrepidmuseum.org.
