SPIDER-MAN WEEK COMES TO NYC

April 30 - May 6

The City of New York and Columbia Pictures invite all New Yorkers and visitors to the take part in the festivities of “Spider-Man Week In NYC” from April 30 - May 6. The week offers fun Spider-Man events at dozens of cultural landmarks and tourist attractions throughout the five boroughs to celebrate the Tribeca Film Festival’s premiere of Spider-Man 3 in Queens, Peter Parker’s hometown. Spider-Man Week in NYC is the result of a partnership between Columbia Pictures and NYC & Company, the City’s tourism, marketing and events organization. Spiders: Alive! at American Museum of Natural History (Central Park West at 79th St.; www.amnh.org)
The upper West Side favorite is host to the largest spider collection in the world, and, this week only, the museum's Dr. Norm Platnick will install a special spider exhibit featuring a dozen of the most unusual arachnids you've ever seen! There'll also be spider origami projects, discussions, and Q&A's. On Tuesday, May 1, from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., come say hi to Spider-Man himself! Daily, 10 a.m.-5:45 p.m.

Spidey Goes Wild Week at The Bronx Zoo (Fordham Road and Bronx River Parkway; www.Bronxzoo.com)
The ultimate scavenger hunt is on as clues are scattered throughout the grounds leading to different "Spider-Man 3"-themed locations! Complete the entire hunt and receive a prize. Daily 10 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.

Central Park Zoo (64th St. and Fifth Ave.; www.nyzoosandaquarium.com)
Kids can explore the rainforest, antarctic habitat and snake houses to find hidden "Spider-Man 3" surprises. Plus, there'll be daily "spidey chats" with the zoo's staff and interactive "Spidey Theater" performances. Daily, 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

The Library, the site of a crucial scene in the Spider-Man 1, boasts "The Ultimate Spider-Man Comic Book Collection" and will display never-before-seen original comics from the vaults, and vibrant art from four decades of adventures. Tues.-Wed. 11 a.m.-7:30 p.m.; Thurs.-Sat. 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sun. 1-5 p.m.

Venom in the Village at Forbidden Planet (840 Broadway at 13th Street; www.fpnyc.com)
Renowned comic book mecca Forbidden Planet will celebrate Venom’s debut with a special signing and giveaway. Tuesday only.

Green Goblin: Behind the Mask at The Children’s Museum of Manhattan (212 W. 83rd St.; www.cmom.org)
The real Green Goblin mask from Spider-Man 1 will be on display for a mask-making workshop in which children will use paint and textured collage materials to create their own masterpieces. Week-long, children can make their very own read and blue Spider-Man puppets. Hero Puppets Daily 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Mask-Making Workshop Saturday at 2, 3 and 4 p.m.

Unweaving the Web: Spider Secrets, Urban Park Rangers (www.nycgovparks.org)
Search all five boroughs and discover these amazing arachnids and their marvelous adaptations including webs, venom, trapdoors and underwater breathing, with spider displays, art stations and treks through the parks.

A Spring Salute to Spider-Man at The New York Botanical Garden (Bronx River Pkwy (Exit 7W) and Fordham Road; www.nybg.org)

Enjoy Spider-Man-inspired activities, including potting baby spider plants, creating a spider web, and receiving a free spider plant.  Tues.- Sun. 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Spider Sensation at the Staten Island Zoo (614 Broadway; www.statenislandzoo.org)
Meet live arachnid species of many kinds who reside at the zoo’s brand new Carl F. Kauffeld Reptile Wing. You will learn what makes spiders tick and create cool spidey crafts. Sun. 1:30 p.m.- 3:30 p.m.

Spidey’s Worldwide Web at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum (145 Brooklyn Avenue; www.brooklynkids.org)
Take an incredible trek around the world to learn about spiders. Weave a dazzling web, hear Navajo spider folktales and create a colorful comic book. Also, meet the museum’s very own Chilean tarantula!  Exhibit Wed.-Fri. 1 p.m. - 6 p.m., Sat.–Sun. 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. Special Spider-Man programs on Saturday only.

Wicked Webs at the Staten Island Children’s Museum (1000 Richmond Terrace; www.statenislandkids.org)
Come visit the Bugs and Other Insects exhibit and view the resident Rose-Hair Tarantula. Learn about how spiders use their webs and play the “Stick around for Dinner Game,” where kids are asked to pretend they are spiders and find out where in the web they might find dinner. Daily 12-5pm

Spider Science at the New York Hall of Science (47-01 111th Street, Queens; www.nyscience.org)
Enjoy climbing the new magnetic Spider Wall, as well as the always popular, outdoor web in the award-winning Science Playground. Learning spider biology with the Hall’s live collection, and be sure to check out Genome: The Secret of How Life Works. Sat - Sun 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Scale Like Spidey at Chelsea Piers (The Field House at Chelsea Piers, Pier 62, 23rd St. and the Hudson River; www.chelseapiers.com/fhdropin.htm)

Show off your best Spider-Man moves. Don climbing shoes (and don’t forget your web slinger!) and scale the 30-foot climbing wall like Spidey. Ages 5-16. Tickets are available the day of session. Urban poets from the five boroughs will compose original raps about Spider-Man and his adventures. The winner takes home a Sony Bravia TV.  Sun. 4:00 p.m.
