Here is one of 12 regional Reserve Banks in the Federal Reserve
System. Free tours will take you through their interactive exhibit
center as well as to the bank's vault which contains international
monetary gold. There's actually more gold here than at Fort Knox.
'Wait, NO!....here is the grandest stash of gold in the entire world!
The Vault itself is located about 5 stories below ground level.
The number of guards employed by the New York Fed is about the
size of the police force in a small American city. The exact number
of guards is not made public for security reasons...Wow! I guess
you'd need such a big force to guard the more than $64 billion of
gold. Approximately 25-30% of the world's known gold reserves. I
haven't gotten around to taking their tour. I understand it's a
very popular place to visit and well, you need to make reservations
way in advance. But, that shouldn't stop you from visiting. Enjoy!
